Rembrandt Bugatti "Pélican à sa toilette" Bronze Sculpture
Rembrandt Bugatti’s "Pélican à sa toilette" also known as "Pelican grooming itself" shows a Pelican preening his wing. He uses his slightly hooked bill to reach the tips of his wings. His bill forms a striking diagonal line with his body, while the curves of his neck are accentuated by the lines of his gular skin, which he uses to expand and consume larger prey. The pelican’s belly was applied using Bugatti’s fingers, creating a sense of tactility. Tool marks on the feathers delineate each barb, showing Bugatti’s attention to detail.
