Created in 1983, these Marina B. "Gina" clip earrings are composed of more than 17 carats of blue and yellow sapphires, over eight carats of diamonds, and 18K gold. Each top is set with a rounded-corner triangular "Marina B-cut" sapphire, suspending an oval-cut sapphire, all framed by graduating full-cut diamonds. An original design showcasing the artist's Bulgari DNA, these streamlined and curvaceous Marina B earrings outlined in gold contours radiate a sweet blue light.

Growing up living and breathing the family business, Marina Bulgari only began designing jewelry with freedom and creativity after several eventful chapters in an extraordinary life. Always an ambitious and energetic spirit, fluent in four languages, Marina focussed in early on math studies, neuroscience, art, and her beloved husband Giorgio Spaccarelli, an eminent physician and former Naval officer. In 1963, she lost her husband and newborn in two successive tragedies, and for a time after this, dedicated herself to sailing, a passion she had shared with Giorgio. For several years, she raced in world class regattas, winning a gold medal in 1973. Then she returned to Rome, joining the family business for a time before her disagreements with her cousins led her to strike off on her own. Opening a boutique in Geneva, she designed jewelry and forged ties with the Parisian ateliers like Pierre Brun, who brought her work to life. For years, she criss-crossed Europe and the Middle East, exhibiting her collections and cultivating a loyal jet set clientele, which included Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly. Marina's love of math and science informed her design, which forefronts unadorned geometric forms. She always supervised the creation of her jewelry from conception through production. Working with a small team, Marina allowed ideas to emerge slowly, with deliberation and refinement at all stages of decision-making and creation. These "Gina" design earrings, produced in a limited number ensuite with matching spring-mounted collar and large wristband, was part of a collection inspired by a dear friend and her daughter.
