Rembrandt Bugatti "Jabiru Femelle" Bronze Sculpture
In this statue "Jabiru Femelle" also known as "Female Saddle Billed stork", the stork wades carefully through the water, its long, slender legs moving with quiet determination. The stork's sharp eyes are constantly scanning the water's surface for movement, its head poised and alert. When it spots its prey—perhaps a fish, frog, or small aquatic creature—it strikes with lightning speed. When the stork is at rest, its neck often forms a gentle S-curve, showcasing its flexibility and poise.

Bugatti produced this female Saddle-Billed stork between 1911 and 1912. The stork, one of the large African wading species, is depicted with its closely folded neck. Its left side lifts gently in mid-step. The modeling of the body is loose and undetailed, and Bugatti has created an illusion of weightlessness by perching this delicate creation on two slender legs. The saddle-billed stork represents the letter “ba” in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, and have been found at archeological digs that date to more than 6000 years old.
