A Tiffany Studios New York Art Nouveau wheel-carved Favrile glass “Leaf & Vine” vase by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Aptly named for its motif, the “Leaf & Vine” vase features a golden iridescent backdrop through which wheel-carved, four-pointed leaves appear to float, delicately tethered by slender, winding vines in soft green hues. This technique, known as cameo glass, was among the most labor-intensive and costly of Tiffany’s early creations, produced during the era of the Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company. To achieve such refinement, Tiffany employed Fredolin Kreishman, former royal engraver to the courts of the King of Bavaria and the Emperor of Austria. His cameo works for Tiffany were prized by the firm’s most prestigious patrons, including the Goulds, Vanderbilts, and Havemeyers. The "Leaf & Vine" vase stands as a testament to Tiffany's pursuit of technical innovation and lyrical naturalism at the highest level of craftsmanship.
